Two heavily armed terrorists from Pakistan were gunned down by the alert troops of the Indian army along the line of control in the Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

This is the first major infiltration bid attempted from across the line of control in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls beginning from April 19.

According to a statement issued by the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. “Alert troops deployed on LoC foiled an Infiltration bid on Friday at Sabura Nala, Uri Sector where two terrorists have been eliminated”.

According to reports, soon after detecting the suspected movement of infiltrators near the line of control the troops challenged them and in the initial exchange of firing one terrorist was gunned down. The second terrorist was neutralized as the operation to flush out the infiltrators progressed during the day.  During searches in the area, the troops also recovered 02xAK Rifles, 04xHand Grenades, and other war-like stores in the forward area.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range VK Birdi briefing a news agency in Srinagar said, an infiltration bid was foiled in the Hathlanga area of Uri early Friday morning by the alert troops of the 5 JAK rifles.

IGP said, according to the initial ground reports two terrorists had been neutralized and the operation was still going on.

According to reports the terrorist handlers sitting across the line of control were waiting for the mountain passes to clear due to the accumulation of snow in the North Kashmir district of Baramulla.

The terrorist handlers rely on launching pads located closer to the Line of Control to push small groups of infiltrators inside the Indian territory.
