BJP MP Deepak Prakash has demanded stern action against guilty persons of Hazaribagh’s Barhi-based Pawanputra Steel Plant blast incident in which six labourers died and several injured. The explosion occurred at a sponge iron plant in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Pawanputra Steel and Alloys plant in Barhi police station area, about 135 km from Ranchi.
BJP Rajya Sabha whip Deepak Prakash today (Monday) shot off a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanding immediate action against Steel Plant owners Bhupendra Agrawal and Sneh Jain under different criminal Sections of BNS.
Besides this, the Rajya Sabha MP has also asked the chief minister for immediate action against the factory inspector of Hazaribagh and other concerned officials for overlooking safety guidelines in the factory. “Had the factory Inspector and other responsible officers followed safety guidelines, such an incident would not have occurred,†he said.
On July 6, a major blast took place in Barhi-based Pawanputrea Steel Plant in which several workers were seriously burnt. Two of them died the same day, while others later on during treatment in the hospital.
“The incident comes under the heinous crime category. So, I demand stern action against responsible persons, proper treatment facility for injured persons and payment of compensation,†said Deepak Prakash in his letter to the chief minister.
Police said out of six injured, four have been referred to Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Barhi sub-divisional officer Johan Tudu said a probe committee would be set up and the guilty won't be spared.
Meanwhile, state health minister Banna Gupta, who visited the site, said prima facie it seemed to violate factory and labour laws. "Many employees including the supervisor were seen without safety gear. I have spoken to the deputy commissioner in this regard and will also address the issue with the labour secretary," he said.
