Election Commission to contact migrant labourers for voting

The Election Commission will contact the migrant labourers of Jharkhand and motivate them to vote. In this regard, after holding a meeting with the Labour Department in the Election Commission office, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar directed to provide the data of migrant labourers to the Commission as soon as possible.

The Labour Department informed in the meeting that they have the data of 1 lakh 70 thousand migrant labourers. They also have their mobile numbers. The CEO said that migrant labourers will be motivated to participate in the election festival and vote by sending bulk messages on their mobile numbers.

On the other hand, the CEO told the Home Department officials present in the meeting that they should contact various security agencies and motivate the personnel working in them to vote. The Home Department officials told that they have the data of 416 security agencies. They will send letters to these agencies by speed post informing them about the Commission's intention and will ask them to motivate the migrant workers working there to vote.

The CEO told the officials to motivate the security agencies to participate in the voting by giving paid leave to the employees under the RP Act. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Neha Arora, Joint Secretary Home Manisha Tigga, Joint Labour Commissioner, Rakesh Prasad and others were present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, in another meeting CEO K Ravi Kumar asked the Transport Department to manage vehicles during the Lok Sabha elections in such a way that the atmosphere does not remain like a curfew on the polling day.

He asked to take every possible care that common citizens do not face any inconvenience in transportation. Polling personnel and security forces associated with election work including common citizens should not face any inconvenience in transportation during election duty. For this, make an assessment and ensure to submit the report related to vehicle management by 26 April 2024.

Kumar was reviewing vehicle management through video conferencing with all Divisional Commissioners, District Electoral Officer-cum- Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Secretary of Regional Transport Authority, District Transport Officers of all districts and Deputy Electoral Officers from Election House on Thursday.

The CEO said that proper arrangements should be made to bring Divyang and senior voters to the polling booths so that voters who are unable to walk to the polling booth on their own are facilitated and they reach the polling booth enthusiastically and cast their vote. He directed to prepare a plan for the availability of small vehicles at the local level for Divyang and senior voters. He directed to make advance preparations for the vehicles and ensure arrangements by establishing contact with the concerned nearby districts as per the requirement.

State Police Nodal Officer A.V. Homkar said that advance preparations should be made for the arrangement of vehicles to transport the police personnel, so that the police personnel do not face any problem and they can reach their respective destinations on time.

Apart from the CEO, Transport cum Welfare Secretary Kripananda Jha, State Police Nodal Officer from Election House, apart from Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Singh and Dr. Neha Arora, STF DIG Indrajit Mahatha, IG Dhananjay Kumar Singh, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer-cum-State Level Officer of SVEEP Devdas Dutta and other senior officers associated with the election work were present in the meeting.
