The gruesome incident of gangrape of a Spanish woman tourist in Dumka district on Saturday was raised in the budget session of Jharkhand Assembly. The BJP, sitting in the Opposition, cornered the government over deteriorating law and order in the State. On the last day of the Budget session of Assembly, the issue was raised by Godda legislator Amit Mandal, who said that such incident has brought bad name to Jharkhand in the whole world.

He said that Jharkhand is ashamed with the incident and demanded immediate removal of Dumka SP. “The government should take strict action in this matter. No one should be spared. Such incidents bring disrepute to the state and the whole nation,” he said.

The State Assembly proceedings remained disrupted for over two hours on the matter.

BJP state president Babulal Marandi said that as a result of the collapsed law and order situation in Jharkhand, the incident of gang rape of a Spanish woman in Dumka has tarnished the reputation of the state even on the international stage.

He also demanded to suspend with immediate effect the senior and junior police officers from the police station to the district who are involved in irregularities.

Not only BJP, but also the legislators of Congress, JMM and other parties denounced the incident and called for strong action against the culprits. The government assured the House that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice and an SIT has been constituted to investigate the case.
