Thursday, 25 April 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In an exceptional medical case, Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Akhlaque Ahmed at Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Tamolia operated on a 44-year old Vinod Kumar Sharma (name changed) who was suffering with breathing difficulties.

The patient was brought to the hospital with complaints of breathing difficulties. Dr Akhlaque Ahmed, Consultant - Interventional Cardiologist at the hospital attended the patient and suggested Angiogram for assessment of heart problems. Besides the breathing difficulties the young gentleman was completely fit with no comorbidity.

The patient was evaluated and found to have low pumping action of the heart( LEVF around 20%). The patient was advised which showed normal coronaries. In view of the low pumping function of the heart,  the patient was advised for CRT- D implantation for a better outcome. The procedure was done successfully and after which the patient was relieved of his complaint and discharged in stable condition after 1 day.

Most common reason for CRT- D implantation is congestive heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy with very low pumping function. In this problem the ultimate treatment is the heart transplantation but CRT- D implantation has saved many lives by increasing the pumping function of the heart and improving the quality of life.

Dr Ahmed said  that CRT- D implant is a Day care procedure done in local anaesthesia which requires expertise & experience with a well trained nursing staff & paramedics team.

The normal symptoms for CRT D implantation are – inability to walk to height, fatigue, sweating & breathlessness, the Dr. Ahmed said.

CRT D implantation procedure is completely safe and it is performed under an experienced & expert team. “ Breathing Difficulties with consistent fatigue persisting for more than two weeks and hampering normal quality of life should be investigated thoroughly," added

Dr Ahmed.

Facility Director Vinit Raj said that Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital is well equipped with the latest & modern infrastructure to operate all cardiac interventions. This achievement underscores our commitment to providing the highest quality cardiac care  and complex procedures in the field of cardiology. We look forward to continuing to push boundaries and deliver exceptional care to our patients."
