Tributes pour in on last journey of Ravi Prakash

Sunday, 22 September 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

A large number of people from all walks of life including Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, MP Mahua Maji, senior journalists and hundreds of others today paid their tributes to journalist Ravi Prakash at Ranchi Press Club.

Prakash, a senior journalist of Jharkhand and a cancer awareness activist breathed his last in Mumbai during his cancer treatment on September 20. His mortal remains were brought to Ranchi today and were kept at the Ranchi Press Club for ‘Antim Darshan’.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid tribute to Ravi Prakash ji by offering a wreath on his body kept for the last darshan at Ranchi Press Club. He said that the demise of senior journalist Ravi Prakash, who made valuable contributions in the field of journalism, is very painful. This is an irreparable loss for the world of journalism. Whatever is said about him will be less. The examples set by this young journalist dedicated to journalism in the field of journalism should be kept alive in future as well. I express my condolences to his family in this hour of grief. I pray to God to give peace to his soul and strength to his bereaved family to bear the grief.

Ravi Prakash (48), who was battling fourth stage lung cancer, passed away on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital. Ranchi based Prakash had been suffering from lung cancer since January 2021 when it was diagnosed at an advanced stage.

Ever since his battle with cancer began in January 2021, Prakash had been tirelessly advocating for cancer patients on various forums. Even on social media he had been raising his voice regarding their struggles, the cost of the treatment, medication and the various problems faced by the patients.

Recently, Prakash had also received the Patient Advocate Education Award by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) - a prestigious organisation working in the field of lung cancer on September 7 during the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) held in San Diego city in America.

Prakash in his quest to educate and inspire others was also the director of Lung Connect India, a voluntary organisation working for cancer patients. Last year he also addressed the conference of SAARC Federation of Oncologists held in Kathmandu where he highlighted the obstacles faced by cancer patients.
