Operation Shiv Shakti follows Mahadev

Thursday, 31 July 2025 | Mohit Kandhari | Jammu

Less than 48 hours after the culmination of Operation Mahadev, which led to the elimination of three Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army launched Operation Shiv Shakti in the wee hours of Wednesday leading to elimination of two more heavily armed terrorists while they were attempting to infiltrate from across the line of control in Poonch.

“In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control. Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs. Three weapons have been recovered,” Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said in a post on X. The army said synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs from its own intelligence units and J and K Police led to a successful operation, which is still in progress.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Command, Tuesday, visited the Dachigam area to commend and felicitate troops for their resolute and swift execution of Operation Mahadev in Lidwas on July 28, where three hardcore terrorists were neutralised. He also commended the troops for their swift action and precise execution in neutralising two terrorists in the ongoing operation #ShivShakti along the LoC in Poonch.

Meanwhile, a search operation was also launched in the Rajbagh area of Kathua district following reports of suspicious movement of terrorists in the area. According to reports, at least two suspected persons wearing black dresses and carrying backpacks were seen moving near the Ujh river late Tuesday night. The locals informed the police authorities, and a search operation was launched in the Chabba Chak, Rampur, and adjoining areas in the Rajbagh sector of Kathua district.

In a separate incident, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a terror associate from Nagrota along with a consignment of three Chinese and Turkish-made pistols. According to police, the accused has been identified as Azan Hameed Gazi, son of Abdul Hameed Gazi, resident of Hilalabad, Qamarwari, Srinagar.

According to a police statement, the terror associate was travelling from Jammu to Srinagar in a Toyota Etios (registration number HR38Z/2066) when the police intercepted him at Nagrota bypass TCP. During the search of the vehicle, police recovered three pistols, three empty magazines, eight live cartridges, and two empty cartridges concealed in a handbag under the co-driver’s seat. “The accused could not produce any valid documents or licences for the recovered arms and ammunition,” the police spokesman said.

Following the recovery, he said, the vehicle was seized and a case under FIR Number 170/2025 under section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered at Police Station Nagrota. “The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain the origin and intended use of the weapons,” added the police spokesman.
