Five people were killed and one critically injured when a high-speed SUV rammed into a divider near Jharsa Chowk in Gurugram on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway.
According to police, the crash occurred around 5.02am at Exit 9 of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle, which at the time was speeding, struck the central divider with such force that it was completely mangled, scattering debris over a stretch of 30 to 40 meters.
Police teams immediately rushed to the spot. All six occupants were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared five of them dead on arrival. One survivor, identified as 28-year-old Kapil Sharma, a resident of Bulandshahr, is undergoing treatment. His condition remains critical.
Initial investigations suggest that over speeding was the primary cause of the accident. Sources claimed that the victims were wearing wristbands from a pub, indicating that they may have been returning from a late-night party. Police are examining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The victims have been identified as Pratishtha Mishra (Rae Bareli), Kapil Sharma (Bulandshahr), Aditya Pratap Singh (Agra), Lavanya (Agra), Soni and Gautam (Sonipat, Haryana). Police said all six occupants were young students. Families of the deceased and the injured have been informed.
“The vehicle has been seized as part of the standard investigation process, and further inquiries are underway. We are awaiting the medical report to determine whether the driver was intoxicated,” a Gurugram police spokesperson said.
