Delhi Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off the city’s first Mobile Forensic Science Lab Van to boost crime scene investigation The ceremony, held at the Delhi Secretariat, was also attended by Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood.

Speaking at the event, CM Rekha Gupta emphasised that the Mobile Forensic Science Lab Van would bring transparency, efficiency, and speed to judicial procedures in the city.

“Our government is committed to delivering fast, transparent, and reliable services to the public using technology. This mobile forensic lab is another milestone in that journey,” she said.

The Mobile Forensic Lab Van is equipped with state-of-the-art tools to conduct on-site preliminary forensic analysis. The van allows expert forensic teams to reach crime scenes quickly and begin evidence collection without delay.

This capability is particularly crucial in serious cases such as murder, theft, fraud, and cybercrime, where timely collection of evidence can make or break a case.

Detailing the crime scene investigation process, the Chief Minister explained that forensic teams follow a strict protocol. They begin by securing the area, followed by documentation through photographs, sketches and video recordings.

They then collect vital evidence such as DNA samples, blood traces, and digital data for initial testing.  A comprehensive report is later compiled, which can be submitted in court as admissible evidence.

CM Gupta underscored the urgency of swift action in criminal investigations. “When evidence is not collected promptly, there is a high risk it may be tampered with or destroyed.

The vigilance and speed of our forensic teams will now become the bedrock of justice delivery in Delhi,” she noted.

Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the evolving nature of the judiciary, stating that scientific evidence now plays a pivotal role in legal proceedings. “Today’s courts rely more on scientific data than mere testimonies. The Mobile Forensic Science Lab Van is a major step toward ensuring transparency, impartiality and efficiency in law enforcement,” he said. He also praised the crucial role played by forensic scientists, adding, “Forensic science is not just a tool to catch criminals, but a powerful weapon in the pursuit of truth and justice.”
