Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor set to transform IMT Manesar

Monday, 16 June 2025 | Parvesh Sharma | Gurugram

A significant milestone in Haryana’s infrastructure development will be marked on Tuesday with the commencement of operations on a key section of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), spanning from the Maruti Plant in IMT Manesar to Patli Railway Station, Gurugram.

This development is expected to make major changes in the industrial and environmental landscape of IMT Manesar and its surrounding areas.

The newly operational 7-kilometer stretch, constructed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HRIDC), will be jointly inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday.

With this, freight movement in and out of IMT Manesar will take a new turn. A dedicated goods yard built within the Maruti Plant premises will facilitate the direct loading of vehicles onto freight trains arriving from Patli Station. Until now, cars were transported via road trailers, contributing to road congestion and pollution.

The corridor will not only ease the movement of finished vehicles but will also streamline the supply chain for auto parts. Containers carrying components from various parts of the country will now reach the plant directly by rail, reducing the number of heavy vehicles on the roads and significantly lowering diesel consumption and emissions.

“The pressure on roads will reduce, pollution will decrease, and fuel will be saved. It’s a step towards a more sustainable and efficient logistics system,” said a senior HRIDC official.

The broader vision for the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor includes a 121.7-kilometer stretch connecting Palwal, Manesar, and Sonipat. The entire project is targeted for completion by 2027. One of the major engineering feats on the route is a 4.7-kilometer double-stack container tunnel under construction in the Aravalli hills, with work progressing rapidly.

Several stations are planned along the corridor, including Turkpur, Kharkhoda, Jasor Khedi, Mandothi, Badli, Devrakhana, Badhsa, New Patli, Pachgaon, Manesar, Chandla Dungarwas, Dhulavat, Sohna, Silani, and New Palwal. The corridor will also directly connect the Maruti Suzuki plant in Kharkhoda, Sonipat.

Moreover, the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor will be integrated with the Dedicated Freight Corridor at Prithla and Tauru, enhancing freight efficiency and strengthening Haryana’s position as a logistics hub.
