n Rashtriya Janta Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has a mild depression which is not very serious, said Rajendra Institute of medical Sciences (RIMS), Director (in-charge) Dr RK Shrivastava on Saturday. He said that if needed the management would also seek advice from its psychiatrist on the patient’s treatment.
“Dr Umesh Prasad, the main doctor treating him has said that it is not serious,” Dr Shrivastava said.
When contacted Dr Umesh said that such psychological problem could arise to anyone who is confined either to bed or is in prison.
It may be stated here that Lalu is said to be suffering from depression for past several months. His medical discharge report from AIIMS a few months ago had also mentioned about the problem.
Meanwhile, the RJD leaders have developed folliculitis which arises from breaking of the hairs of the limbs. The skin has developed boils and also caught infection. The doctors have started treating the disease on the advice of skin specialist.
It may be stated after his surrender before CBI court on August 30 Lalu was shifted to RIMS as he was suffering from various illnesses including diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems. He has also undergone operation for fistula recently but the sore has developed puss. His heart valve is also said to have hardened.
The RIMS doctors are in regular touch with the Asian Heart Institute (ASI) who has suggested no changes in the medicine being administered to Lalu. “Broadly we are giving him the medicine prescribed by the ASI with minor changes based on symptoms,” the RIMS Director said.
