A direct flight will connect Bhubaneswar with Surat in Gujarat from January 1, 2020. Ministry of Civil Aviation has agreed to introduce the flight by Government-run carrier Air India. Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi has informed this. Sarangi and her Surat counterpart Darshana Jardosh had submitted a proposal in this regard to Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in July this year.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik too had urged the then Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu in August 2018 to introduce a direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Surat, where lakhs of Odia families stay and work.
