n The Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board has been renamed as the ‘Chhattisgarh Adivasi Sthaniya Swasthya Parampara Avam Aushadhi Padap Board’ (Chhattisgarh Tribal Local Health Tradition and Medicinal Plant Board).
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel during a state-level convention of Vaidya (traditional healers) announced the formation of herbal medicinal board to preserve the health traditions of the state, a press release said.
The Board has been renamed with this intention. It will speed up preservation of tribal traditional and popular health practices and knowledge of traditional medicine practitioners.
The Board will promote research work on medicinal herbs found in forest, identification of herbs and survey of herbal resources, their processing (establishment of small and cottage industries), planning production, export and marketing as well as assessment of demand and supply of herbal medicinal products.
It will also work to conserve the bio diversity of medicinal plants, promotion of herbal plants farming, sustainable harvesting of herbs and popularize the local traditional health knowledge.
The Board will also collaborate with national and international institutions for the development of herbal plants, identification of tribal and local healers, their capacity development and training.
