Saturday, 17 July 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

For redevelopment of stations under Station Redevelopment Project Indian Railways is carrying out redevelopment work of 123 stations across the country with private sector participation under Public Private Partnership Project. In this series, five railway stations of East Central Railway are to be developed as world class, which include Gaya, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai and Singrauli stations.

The main objective of the station redevelopment is to provide safety, better and pleasant travel experience and world class passenger amenities to the passengers. Equipping the station with world-class and state-of-the-art facilities, the station will be given the form of a green building, where there will be adequate arrangements for ventilation etc. Mall and multipurpose building will be built on railway land. The station will be developed according to solar energy, energy efficiency equipment and ‘green building’ standards.

Considering the importance of Gaya city from both religious and tourism point of view, redevelopment of Gaya station of East Central Railway has been planned. After the completion of the redevelopment work, the passengers will get world class facilities like airport at Gaya station. These works related to the redevelopment of Gaya station by Rail Land Development Authority will be completed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Based on the estimated number of passengers for the year 2065 (peak hours) at this station, passenger facilities will be redeveloped accordingly. The redevelopment of Gaya station is estimated to cost Rs 173 crore.

The entry and exit gates for the arrival and departure of railway passengers at the station shall be such that passengers do not face congestion. Access control gates will be installed at the station and escalators and lifts will be installed on each platform, so that the passengers get convenience in moving from one platform to another. The essential facilities provided to the passengers will include catering, washroom, drinking water, ATM, internet etc. This will especially benefit senior citizens along with common passengers.

Tourist facilities will be developed in and around Gaya station, which will increase the number of tourists, which will also benefit the local people.

Similarly, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Muzaffarpur Junction and Begusarai stations will also be redeveloped. Improved passenger facilities will also be available at these stations. Construction of a parking area, underground or multi-storey parking is proposed. Along with this, the roads around the junction will also be made better so that the passengers do not face any kind of trouble. The circulating area of the same junction will be developed as a fully protected zone. In the coming days, giving a completely hi-tech look to the station, passengers will start getting all the facilities like world class railway stations.
