The challenge of change

The challenge is not to just survive change but to thrive, writes Anamika Yaduvanshi, as she give tips to build your resilience

Change is inevitable. There is nothing you can do to prevent change. Life moves forward and things change in one way or the other. The challenge is not to just survive change but to thrive. Change that requires tough times to deal can be sometimes painful. That is what being resilient is all about. When there are bad times, people who have learnt resilient skills, have an increased chance of bouncing back. This can reduce depression and other health issues. Build your resilience by using the following tips:

Be Positive: Being positive is being more relaxed and less worried about a tough situation and coping with out taking any stress. That does not mean that you abstain from taking action regarding the situation. Being positive means that you are relaxed after the necessary steps have been taken. It does not mean ignoring the problem in order to focus on positive outcomes. It means that setbacks are transient and that you have the skills and abilities to combat the challenges you face. What you are dealing with, may be difficult, but it is important to remain hopeful and positive about bright future.

Believe in yourself: Belief in your abilities and potential plays an important role in coping with stress and recovering from difficult challenges. Believe that you are the most capable person to deal with what has just been thrown in your lap in the form of a challenge. Have faith that you have the skill to deal with the toughest situation. Faith can move mountains. Just affirm that you can do it and you will surely do it.

Find out sense of purpose in your life: Every body has a purpose in their life and sometimes the purpose of your life is bigger than you. The best time that our purpose becomes clear to us is when we are going through the toughest time of our life because you discover a lot in bad or tough times. Perhaps Bhagavad Gita was the life purpose of lord Krishna. Lord Ram defeated Ravana and other demons when he was challenged and his wife was kidnapped, may be killing Ravana was the purpose of Lord Ram’s life. If you are going through challenge and you are mindful, there is a possibility that you will be able to find out the purpose of your life.

Embrace Change: If we keep running away from change and don’t accept it then things may get worse. If we accept change, that gives an open minded approach to handle it. By learning how to be more adaptable, you’ll be better equipped to respond when faced with a crisis. Resilient people often utilise these events as an opportunity to branch out in new directions. While some people may be crushed by abrupt changes, highly resilient individuals are able to adopt and thrive.

Accept things you cannot change: Change can be difficult to deal with so people want to change a lot of things around which is not possible so they end up feeling frustrated. For instance, today’s Corona time people want to change the corona situation, they want Covid to go away which is sadly not possible overnight. What they should be doing is getting adapted to the new corona world and finding ways to boost immunity and follow Covid protocols like wearing mask, washing hands and maintaining distance.
