Congress presents united India face

Sunday, 17 September 2023 | PNS | Hyderabad/New Delhi

The first meeting of the Mallikarjun Kharge-led Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday focused more on the prospects of the newly formed coalition of Opposition parties called “INDIA.”

In his opening remarks at the newly constituted CWC, Kharge said that 27 INDIA bloc parties stand together on fundamental issues of importance. After three “successful” meetings, the Opposition alliance is moving forward to combat the “anti-people and anti-democratic BJP Government.”

Kharge alleged the BJP is resorting to vindictive action against Opposition parties in response to this development within the INDIA bloc.

In attendance at the meeting were Kharge, former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, and general secretaries KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, among others.

Congress leaders deliberated on preparing a comprehensive roadmap to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming Assembly polls in five States and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress called for an immediate start to the Census process along with a caste survey to secure the rights to health, education, employment, and food security for the deprived sections of society.

By holding this crucial meeting in the Telangana capital, the party aims to convey that it will exert maximum effort to dislodge the BRS Government.

During the CWC meeting and the deliberations at the extended working committee session on Sunday, discussions about party organisation will take place. The meeting will emphasise strengthening the organisation, with discussions on alliances taking place within the INDIA bloc.

Referring to the creation of the State of Telangana following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi expressed the grand old party’s commitment to the people of Telangana and affirmed that they will always stand by the aspirations of the Telangana people.

Kharge said, “Now, it is time to lead the State into a new era of progress and prosperity. The Congress Working Committee stands ready to write a new chapter of development with dignity for all people of Telangana and our nation.”

Rahul emphasised, “The Congress is dedicated to addressing the concerns of the common people and striving to provide them with a government that upholds their rights and aspirations.”

While the MPs of the party will return to Delhi for the special session of Parliament after the rally, other leaders, CWC members, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders will disperse to various assembly constituencies on September 18.
