UP emerges as leader in electronic goods market, IT sector

Wednesday, 08 November 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

With the production of 40 per cent of the mobile handsets and a staggering 55 per cent of the country’s mobile components in Uttar Pradesh, it has emerged as one of the leading states in the IT sector and electronic goods market.

This feat is just one example of Uttar Pradesh’s dominant position in the consumer electronics market nationally, making it the largest exporter of electronic goods in the country.  UP, as the rapidly emerging IT hub of the nation, is not only making a mark domestically, but also gaining international recognition.

It is noteworthy that Invest India works as an agency under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, whose main objective is to promote national investment promotion and facilitation.

The impact of the efforts made by the “double-engine” government in Uttar Pradesh to harness the state’s immense potential is becoming evident on both national and global scales. Invest India data reveals that despite a population equivalent to that of Brazil, the proper implementation of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the state has brought about massive positive changes in Uttar Pradesh.

It may be noted that as per Yogi’s intentions, core sectors have been selected to promote industrial and economic activities in the state, in which ‘ease of doing business’ is being promoted through various processes, including policy formulation, concessions, and land allotment.

Consequently, in the last few years, industrial and business activities in every sector of Uttar Pradesh have had a positive direction. The state is not only excelling in food grain production, but is also leaving its mark in numerous other sectors.

According to Invest India data, 196 companies related to the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector are operating in Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, there are 30 special economic zones (SEZs) and 40 IT and ITES parks, which are collectively shaping UP into an emerging IT hub of the country.

Owing to the policies of the Yogi government, research and development centres have developed in Noida and Greater Noida. Similarly, companies doing research on semiconductors also have a wide presence in these areas due to their close proximity to Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh is currently gaining recognition for having the largest road network across the country. Cities like Meerut, Moradabad, Kannauj, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Bhadohi, and Lucknow are solidifying their positions as the main business centres within the state.

Uttar Pradesh has already established itself as a leader in the production of food grains, contributing more than 8 per cent of the country’s total food production.

Additionally, the state ranks third in fish production and holds the top position in frozen meat production. With the presence of 15 agro and food processing clusters and four agriculture export zones, UP is continuously progressing in the field of food processing. Furthermore, UP holds the third position in the country’s handloom sector.
