DMK allots two LS seats each to CPM, CPI

Friday, 01 March 2024 | Kumar Chellappan | CHENNAI

The DMK on Thursday completed its first round of allocation of Lok Sabha seats to fringe outfits like the CPI(M) and CPI, two constituents in the front led by the former. The CPI(M) and CPI have been allocated two seats each by the Dravidian major. The allocation process was a smooth affair as both the Communist parties expressed satisfaction and happiness over the kindness of Big Brother DMK.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election too, the CPI(M) and the CPI had been allocated two seats each and both the parties won the seats. The DM K also allocated one seat each to the Muslim League and Kongu Desiya Murpokku Kazhakam. A release from DMK headquarters said the allocation of seats was a smooth affair and all the constituents in the front (Secular Progressive Alliance) were confident of repeating the 2019 show. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the DMK and its allies had whitewashed the AIADMK front by winning 37 out of the 38 seats which were at stake from Tamil Nadu.

The DMK is yet to finalise seat deals with the Indian National Congress, Makkal Neethi Mayiam (led by actor Kamal Haasan) and some other fringe outfits like VCK.

The Pattali Makkal Katchi led by Dr S Ramdoss and DMDK launched by late actor Vijayakanth are yet to decide on which front to align with. A senior PMK leader who is close to party founder Dr Ramdoss said there is a strong anti-incumbency wave blowing across Tamil Nadu against the DMK Government. “People are sad and shocked over the kind of corruption and favoritism of the Stalin government. We will take a decision taking into all accounts all these issues,” said the PMK leader.

S Semmalai, veteran AIADMK leader who is the last link between party founder MG Ramachandran and the present day leadership, said the DMK-led alliance despite the anti-incumbency wave remains intact and this has made the odds in favor of that party. Unless and until there is a revolt among the alliance partners, the DMK is in strong wicket though it is not as safe as in 2019,” Semmalai told The Pioneer.

The next two weeks will see the fronts led by the DMK, AIADMK and the BJP giving finishing touches to the battlelines.
