Lok Sabha polls: Officials rally for increased postal ballot

Wednesday, 21 February 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a proactive step towards ensuring a seamless electoral process, Deputy Commissioner, Ananya Mittal, chaired a crucial review meeting at the Collectorate Hall. The focus of the meeting was on strategizing and enhancing participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections through postal ballots.

During the meeting, Mittal emphasised the significance of ensuring the inclusion of essential service personnel, such as those from the fire department, health department, and electricity department, in the voter list. He stressed the need for officers and employees to promptly register their names in the voter list, especially if residing in a location other than their place of work.

Mittal directed the timely preparation of a list encompassing essential service personnel intending to vote via postal ballots. The officials were urged to actively encourage their families and relatives to participate in the democratic process during the upcoming elections.

To streamline the voting process, Mittal instructed the systematic creation of rosters for all officers and employees, guaranteeing their ability to cast their votes. He also called for the identification and facilitation of persons with disabilities (PWD) and elderly individuals, ensuring they have the necessary arrangements for voting.

The Commissioner highlighted the substantial number of essential service personnel who will utilize postal ballots, underlining the importance of achieving 100% voter registration for this category. Furthermore, the inclusion of shift workers in the voter list was emphasized. To provide information related to voting, Mittal encouraged the use of the helpline number 1950.

Among the attendees were Special Officer Subdivision, Jamshedpur, Deepu Kumar, District Supply Officer Salman Zafar Khizri, DCLR Gautam Kumar, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Manjhi, and other concerned officers. The collaborative efforts of the administration aim to ensure a smooth and inclusive electoral process for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

He said that it is very important to get the names of essential service personnel, such as fire department, health department, electricity department etc., registered in the voter list. If the name of any officer/employee is registered in the voter list at a place other than his place of residence, then he should ensure to get his name transferred to the polling station nearest to his place of residence.

He directed that the list of essential service personnel voting in postal ballots should be made available by tomorrow. He urged everyone to actively participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and also inspire their families and relatives to exercise their franchise. He said that the roster of all the officers and employees should be prepared in a planned manner, so that it can be ensured that all the employees are able to vote. He directed people to identify persons with disabilities (PWD) and elderly people and make necessary arrangements for voting.
