Tuesday, 05 March 2024 | Staff Reporter | DANTEWADA

A Maoist on Monday surrendered to security forces in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.

Mituram Barsa (31) turned himself in, citing disappointment with the Maoist ideology, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said.

Barsa was the Phoolgatta Panchayat Militia Deputy Commander under the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the outlawed Maoist organisation.

So far, 677 Maoists, including 172 carrying cash rewards, have quit violence in the district in Dantewada since June 2020.
